πŸ’Valentine's Day Lesson Ideas & a F R E E B I E! πŸ’

Hi Reader!

Each year for Valentine's Day, my class did activity rotations with the other special education classrooms in the building. The year I got married my fiance surprised me with a singing telegram made up of a quartet of ladies singing old-timey love songs... right in the middle of our rotations. I was MORTIFIED! 😳 Back then I was terrified of being the center of attention... which was ironic as a teacher! Eleven years later and it is a favorite Valentine's Day memory.

Another favorite Valentine's Day memory was having my entire class share what they loved about each other and adding it to a personalized poster for each student. It was so cute seeing how the kids described each other and how excited everyone got. Keep reading to grab this freebie and try it out in your classroom!

Now this activity is part of my Valentine's Day Thematic Group Unit along with 11 other activities including graphing candy hearts, making milkshakes, and playing Valentine BINGO!

This month I also love to read Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse! from the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. It is a super cute story about what Mouse loves about all of his friends and is a great story to read before the poster activity. I even created a Picture Book Communication and Comprehension unit to accompany the book with vocabulary, sentence building, comprehension, progress monitoring, and IEP goal ideas!

Grab my bundle of these resources and you are all set for the week!

I have two great blog posts over at missallisonsspedspot.org about Valentine's Day in my room if you are looking for more ideas.

And finally, before you go grab this FREEBIE so you can make the Valentine's Day posters with your class. It is the best activity EVER!

Hi Reader! St. Patrick's Day is over and it's not quite Easter yet so what do we teach during this weird time? In February I started teaching about feelings and each March I continue the "All About Me" themes by introducing Senses and Body Parts. Some of my favorite activities from these thematic units include: Reading From Head to Toe and acting out all the movements Body Outline Tracing and Labeling on Butcher Paper Egg Shaker Mystery Sound Game (a perfect way to lead into the Easter...

Hi Reader! I started blogging in 2012 as a way to share ideas and network with other SpEducators when I often felt like I was on my own little island as the only special education classroom in my building. Fast forward 12 years later and I have expanded my blog into my TPT store and these weekly Snippets that I get to share with all of you. The only problem was my blog was still stuck in 2012 🫣🫣🫣 Until now... I'm so excited to introduce the new Miss Allison's SpEd Spot! My new site makes it...

Hi Reader! Read Across America Week will be here before you know it! Does your school have a big celebration? In my classroom, a favorite book for many years was Green Eggs and Ham. I even had students who memorized the entire book they loved it so much! πŸ₯° Each March, I used Green Eggs and Ham to work on my student's reading IEP goals so I created lots of great communication and comprehension activities to go along with it. Plus some progress monitoring sheets so I didn't have to reinvent...
