Hi! I am Allison. I am an Intervention Specialist and Certified Autism Specialist with nearly 20 years of experience working with students with autism and low-incidence disabilities.

I taught in an elementary special education classroom where I created countless individualized supports, organizational tools, and differentiated activities for my students before transitioning to my current position on an autism and low-incidence coaching team where I have had the pleasure of meeting and helping teachers in hundreds of classrooms in the Dayton, Ohio area. I am passionate about special education and helping teachers!

Hi Reader! St. Patrick's Day is over and it's not quite Easter yet so what do we teach during this weird time? In February I started teaching about feelings and each March I continue the "All About Me" themes by introducing Senses and Body Parts. Some of my favorite activities from these thematic units include: Reading From Head to Toe and acting out all the movements Body Outline Tracing and Labeling on Butcher Paper Egg Shaker Mystery Sound Game (a perfect way to lead into the Easter...

Hi Reader! I started blogging in 2012 as a way to share ideas and network with other SpEducators when I often felt like I was on my own little island as the only special education classroom in my building. Fast forward 12 years later and I have expanded my blog into my TPT store and these weekly Snippets that I get to share with all of you. The only problem was my blog was still stuck in 2012 🫣🫣🫣 Until now... I'm so excited to introduce the new Miss Allison's SpEd Spot! My new site makes it...

Hi Reader! Read Across America Week will be here before you know it! Does your school have a big celebration? In my classroom, a favorite book for many years was Green Eggs and Ham. I even had students who memorized the entire book they loved it so much! πŸ₯° Each March, I used Green Eggs and Ham to work on my student's reading IEP goals so I created lots of great communication and comprehension activities to go along with it. Plus some progress monitoring sheets so I didn't have to reinvent...

Hi Reader! After all the talk about what students love during Valentine's Day activities, I always found a natural next step in my thematic units was to focus on feelings and emotions. Some of my favorite activities to teach about emotions include: talking about emotions, what causes them, and coping strategies for what we call BIG emotions (The Way I Feel by Janan Cain is a GREAT resource for this!) making silly emoji faces πŸ˜œπŸ˜‰πŸ˜πŸ˜‹πŸ€¨πŸ˜± cooking activities with different faces such as waffles, rice...

Hi Reader! Each year for Valentine's Day, my class did activity rotations with the other special education classrooms in the building. The year I got married my fiance surprised me with a singing telegram made up of a quartet of ladies singing old-timey love songs... right in the middle of our rotations. I was MORTIFIED! 😳 Back then I was terrified of being the center of attention... which was ironic as a teacher! Eleven years later and it is a favorite Valentine's Day memory. Another...

Hi Reader! Animals are a common special interest in my classroom so I have taken full advantage over the years of using animals to teach a variety of skills. I have created over 70 different activities for reading, math, cooking, science, communication, games, writing, and more! For my TPT store, I divided all of my animal activities into thematic units by narrowing down the topic because I know not everyone can cover all 70 activities each year. I created units for Animals & Habitats, Animal...

Hi Reader! The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats is one of my absolute favorite picture books. I love it so much that when I was pregnant I insisted my husband stop by Kohl's to grab a little stuffed Peter doll for our baby boy. It was his very first doll! I love the pictures, the sequence of the story, the mystery of the missing snowball, and all of the great vocabulary I can teach my students as we read. This was actually the very first Communication and Comprehension set I made for my TPT...
